A Short History of Siberian Missions
My wife and I moved to Alaska in 1984 and became involved in Hamilton Acres Baptist Church which is located in the city of Fairbanks. The Lord called me into the ministry in 1986 and I gave up my Army career and went into the ministry in the middle of 1987. I was ordained by Hamilton Acres Baptist Church in 1990.
We took our first trip to the Kamchatka Region in 1992.
The mission boards we contacted before and after that first trip suggested a minimum of $5000 per month of support for a missionary and his family. We knew that living in that part of Russia did not require that much monthly support and felt the urgency of going was more important than the need of spending 3-4 years on deputation to raise the $5000 of suggested monthly support. As a result our local church established its own Mission Board – Siberian Missions.
We were able to raise $500 of monthly support and our family with five children moved to the main city of Kamchatka (Petropavlovsk) in the summer of 1993. During the time we were in Kamchatka we were able to visit every city and village on the existing road system to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. By the grace of God several local, indigenous churches were planted before visa problems caused us to transfer to the Magadan Region.
We moved to the village of Palatka in the Magadan Region in 1998 and over the next several years saw the beginnings of what is now an established local church in the city of Magadan. This church is pastored by a native of the region.
Once again visa problems caused us to move back to Alaska. We relocated to a small “bush” community in 2004 to help with a little, struggling established church that had seven members. We continue to minister in this community and assist with the ongoing work in Kamchatka and Magadan.
Our prayer is that the simple Gospel message will fall on fertile hearts and bring salvation to the lost.
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1 Corinthians 15:1-4
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
